CAL Bank and NewGold ETF Lead Equity Gains on GSE; No Losers Recorded

Equity gainers for last Friday’s trading session on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) were CAL Bank and NewGold ETF (GLD) recording price gains of GHS 0.02 and GHS 1.40 to end the week at GHS 0.37 and GHS 391.90 respectively.

Hence, CAL and GLD will be starting Monday’s trading session at a starting price of GHS 0.37 and GHS 391.90.

There were no losers recorded at the close of the trading session on Friday, January 2025.

Scancom Plc (MTNGH), Cal Bank (CAL), FanMilk Limited (FML), Access Bank (ACCESS), and Ecobank Ghana (EGH) ended last week as the top traded equities on the stock market.

MTNGH traded the highest volumes – 950,577 shares – at a total value of GHS 2,376,442.50. CAL, FML, and ACCESS traded with volumes of 142,401; 13,204, and 7,004 shares respectively resulting in trading values of GHS 50,400.35; GHS 48,854.80, and GHS 36,420.80 respectively.

At the tail of the top 5 trade activity pile was EGH trading 6,496 shares worth GHS 42,224.00.

The total volume and value of equities traded for last week amounted to 1,142,015 and GHS 3,639,086 from the previous week’s total volume and value traded of 1,318,404 and GHS 21,110,357.

Pertaining to the indices, the GSE-CI rose from 4,888.53 points to 4,890.27 points this week, climbing 0.04% compared to the 0.71% rise last week.

The GSE-FSI closed 0.10% higher at 2,383.24 points with its YTD return currently at 0.10%.

The market capitalization of the local bourse read GHS 111,381.79 million – a climb from the GHS 111,365.31 million last week.

Mining Equities for the Week

AngloGold Ashanti closed the week at a stock price of GHS 37 recording no change in share price on the back of zero trading in the equity.

The equity begins this week with the same share price of GHS 37.

The gold firm’s market capitalization on the GSE currently stands at GHS 18.5 billion with total issues shares of 502 million

Atlantic Lithium Ghana on the other hand saw some marginal trading activity as 61 shares of the company were traded at a share price of GHS 6.12. The total traded value of the shares amounted to GHS 373.32.

ALLGH begins this week’s trading with a share price of GHS 6.12.

The country’s first lithium mining company has issued shares of 693 million valued at GHS 4.24 billion on the GSE.

Banking Equities for the Week

Financial equities such as GCB witnessed marginal trading in its shares as just 10 stocks worth GHS 63.70 were traded.

The bank’s equity price begins this week’s trading at GHS 6.37 having remained at the same price throughout last week.

With total issues shares of 265 million, the bank’s market capitalisation on the local bourse stands at GHS 1.68 billion.

Republic Bank Ghana with a closing share price of GHS 0.66 witnessed zero trading in its equities for last week.
This implies the equity will start this week‘s trading session at a share price of GHS 0.66.

Republic Bank Ghana with a market capitalisation of GHS 562 million has 851 million issued shares on the GSE.

Petroleum Equities for the Week

Upstream petroleum player, Tullow Oil Ghana, saw a single trade in its equities at the close of last week with the value of the trade made being GHS 11.92.

Tullow ended last week with a share price of GHS 11.92, the share price of Tullow for this week is, however, expected to change possibly recording some gains on the back of the company’s tribunal victory in its $320 million tax dispute with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

Already, the company according to Bloomberg has witnessed a 14% rise in its shares with its share price going for 25 pence.

Tullow has 1.45 billion shares issued on the GSE resulting in a total market capitalisation of GHS 17.38 billion for the oil company.

Downstream petroleum player, TotalEnergies witnessed zero trading in its equities for last week, ending the week at a share price of GHS 13.20.

With that, the equity will commence Monday’s trading activity with an opening price of GHS 13.20.
TotalEnergies with issued shares of 111 million shares on the GSE, has its market capitalisation pegged at GHS 1.46 billion.
