Champions League: Bayern, Benfica, Club Brugge, and Feyenoord Advance to Round of 16

The UEFA Champions League knockout phase concluded with thrilling matches as Bayern München, Benfica, Club Brugge, and Feyenoord secured their places in the round of 16. The action was intense, with late drama and standout performances characterizing the evening’s fixtures.
Bayern 1-1 Celtic

Bayern München progressed after a dramatic late goal by Alphonso Davies in the fourth minute of added time. Celtic had taken the lead with a goal from Nicolas Kühn just after the hour mark, putting the aggregate score at 2-2 and threatening to push the tie into extra time. However, after several missed opportunities, Davies bundled in the winner following a save from Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel. Schmeichel was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance in goal.

Atalanta 1-3 Club Brugge (Agg: 2-5)

Club Brugge displayed a commanding performance, with Chemsdine Talbi scoring twice within the first 27 minutes. Ferran Jutglà added a third before halftime, putting Brugge firmly in control. Despite a second-half response from Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, who scored shortly after coming on, Brugge held on for the win, with Simon Mignolet making crucial saves, including stopping a Lookman penalty. Ardon Jashari was awarded Player of the Match for his influential display.

Benfica 3-3 Monaco (Agg: 4-3)

In a thrilling encounter, Benfica narrowly edged past Monaco with a late strike from Orkun Kökçü. Benfica initially took the lead through Kerem Aktürkoğlu, but Monaco responded with goals from Takumi Minamino and Eliesse Ben Seghir. Vangelis Pavlidis restored Benfica’s advantage with a penalty, and after George Ilenikhena’s goal, Kökçü’s late effort sealed the tie. Kökçü’s performance earned him the Player of the Match accolade.

Feyenoord advanced to the round of 16 for the first time after holding AC Milan to a draw at Stadio San Siro. The match started poorly for Feyenoord, as Milan’s Santiago Giménez equalized just 37 seconds in. However, the hosts suffered a setback when Theo Hernández received a second yellow card early in the second half. Julián Carranza then scored for Feyenoord to secure their aggregate victory. Dávid Hancko was named Player of the Match for his solid performance.
