CHAN 2023: We came here to win the cup – Black Galaxies head coach Annor Walker
Head coach of the Black Galaxies, Annor Walker, says the team is in Algeria with one purpose and that is to win the 2023 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The veteran head coach is hoping to become the first head coach to win the coveted crown for Ghana after unsuccessful attempts in the previous three editions the team has been involved.
Milovan Rajevac and Maxwell Konadu took the team to the final in 2009 and 2014 while Herbert Addo’s 2011 side couldn’t go past the group stage.
“We didn’t come here to come and joke. We didn’t come here to look at how Algiers town is,” he said.
“We came for a purpose and we also came to win the cup.”
The Black Galaxies played their last friendly game on Tuesday, January 10, against Mozambique with the game ending abruptly due to a penalty the referee awarded to the Black Galaxies.
They now turn their attention to the tournament which kicks off on January 13 with Ghana taking on Madagascar in their group opener on Sunday January 15, 2023.
The team is making a return to the tournament after failing to qualify for the last three editions.
Ghana have been paired in Group C alongside Morocco, Sudan and Madagascar.
