GPL: Heart Of Lions Maintain Top Spot; Kotoko Sink Dreams; Nations FC Record Big Win

It was an action-packed weekend in the Ghana Premier League, with teams fighting for points at both ends of the table. Heart of Lions stayed on top, Kotoko added to Dreams FC’s struggles, and Bechem United extended their winning streak. Here is a quick wrap of all the key matches and results.

Heart of Lions 3-1 Basake Holy Stars

Heart of Lions continued their impressive run at the top of the Premier League table with a commanding 3-1 victory over Basake Holy Stars at the Kpando Stadium on Saturday. Nana Kwame Oppong stole the show with a brilliant brace, while Emmanuel Ofori Sakyi added his name to the scoresheet. Emmanuel Agyei’s consolation goal for the visiting Holy Stars was not enough to trouble the Lions, who now sit comfortably at the summit with 27 points from 14 matches. Meanwhile, Holy Stars remain in mid-table as their inconsistent season continues.

Asante Kotoko 2-1 Dreams FC

Asante Kotoko deepened Dreams FC’s relegation woes with a hard-fought 2-1 win at the Tuba Astro Turf. Baba Yahaya opened the scoring for the Porcupine Warriors, and Saaka Dauda doubled their advantage with a sublime finish. Dreams FC’s Joseph Esso pulled one back in the 56th minute, but it proved to be a mere consolation, as Dreams suffered their sixth defeat of the season. The result leaves Dreams FC languishing in the bottom three, while Kotoko inch closer to the top four.

Bechem United 1-0 FC Samartex 1996

Bechem United continued their hot streak, securing a fifth consecutive win with a narrow 1-0 victory over defending champions FC Samartex 1996 at the Nana Gyeabour Park. Dalvin Yeboah scored the decisive goal just two minutes into the second half, ensuring Bechem United maintained their third-place position on the league table. Samartex, on the other hand, remain outside the top five as their title defense falters.

Young Apostles 1-1 Vision FC

Young Apostles and Vision FC played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at the Wenchi Sports Stadium. Ramzy Abubakar gave the Apostles the lead with a fine strike, but Emmanuel Atta Frimpong equalized for Vision FC to salvage a crucial point on the road. The result leaves Vision FC in 11th place, while the Apostles sit in 14th with 14 points from 14 matches.

Nations FC 3-0 Legon Cities

Nations FC piled more misery on bottom-placed Legon Cities with a dominant 3-0 victory at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex in Abrankese. Nafiu Sulemana led the charge with a stunning brace, scoring in the 7th and 39th minutes, before Barimah Baah added the third to complete the rout. Legon Cities’ struggles continue as they remain rooted to the bottom of the table, while Nations FC climb further away from the danger zone.

Gold Stars FC 2-1 Nsoatreman FC

Gold Stars consolidated their position as title challengers with a 2-1 win over Nsoatreman FC at the Duns Park. Michael Nkoah opened the scoring for Frimpong Manso’s side just before halftime, and Foster Agyei doubled the lead in the second half. Nsoatreman managed to pull one back, but it was not enough to deny Gold Stars all three points. The victory leaves Gold Stars level on 27 points with leaders Heart of Lions, separated only by goal difference, while Nsoatreman FC languish in 12th place.

The Premier League table remains tightly contested at both ends, with Heart of Lions and Gold Stars locked in a battle for supremacy, while the bottom three—Dreams FC, Legon Cities, and others—face an uphill battle in their fight for survival.
