Christian Horner Exits Red Bull Racing as Laurent Mekies Takes Over as CEO
In a significant managerial reshuffle, Christian Horner has exited his role as CEO and Team Principal of Red Bull Racing, effective immediately. Laurent Mekies, previously the team boss of Racing Bulls, has been appointed as his successor.
Horner’s departure marks the end of an era, as he has been at the helm of Red Bull Racing for nearly 20 years, guiding the team from its inaugural Formula 1 season in 2005 to multiple World Championships. “Red Bull has released Christian Horner from his operational duties,” a spokesperson for the team confirmed. Oliver Mintzlaff, CEO of Corporate Projects and Investments, thanked Horner for his “exceptional work” and highlighted his role in establishing Red Bull Racing as a powerhouse in the sport.
Mekies expressed his enthusiasm for taking over the reins, stating, “It has been an amazing adventure to contribute to the birth of Racing Bulls. The spirit of the whole team is incredible, and I strongly believe that this is just the beginning.” He also praised Alan Permane, the current Racing Director, who will step up as Team Principal of Racing Bulls, calling him “the perfect man to take over now.”
Permane echoed Mekies’ sentiments, saying he feels “honored” to take on the new role and is eager to continue the team’s progress alongside the leadership of Peter Bayer, Racing Bulls’ CEO.
