Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Independent Power Producers and Bulk Consumers (CIPDiB), Elikplim Kwablah Apetorgbor, has suggested to the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDco) a solution to the incessant power outages witnessed across the Greater Accra Region.
Calling on the management of GRIDCo to ensure that power transmission equipment are well upgraded with obsolete ones immediately replaced, Mr Apetorgbor, averred that GRIDCo should create power buffer lines to ensure a continuous supply of power to Ghanaians.
“GRIDCo deserves applause for keeping electricity running despite the challenges they are facing, but I still want to challenge them to step up their game to the level where even if maintenance has to be done, consumers will not notice it. And this can be done by creating buffer lines that will transfer power for continuous supply without having to necessarily put of the grid,” he said.
Adding the creation of power buffer lines is one of the best practices in utilities management and operations.
GRIDCo, for the past few weeks, has on several occasions issued press releases explaining the causes of the intermittent power outages witnessed in parts of Accra, Kumasi and Winneba.
The power transmission firm, debunking assertions of having power generation difficulties, attributed the power outages to shortage of gas supply from the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) to fuel its power stations, faults in power transmission lines, ongoing maintenance on transmission lines among others.
GRIDCo, in its numerous press releases has also denied plans of embarking on a nationwide load shedding programme.
