CODEO Confirms 2024 Presidential Election Results Align with PVT Estimates

The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has endorsed the accuracy of the 2024 presidential election results declared by the Electoral Commission (EC). According to CODEO, its Parallel Vote Tabulation (PVT) estimates align with the official results, confirming the integrity of the electoral process.

In a statement issued on Monday, December 9, CODEO noted that party agents from the two main political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), were present at 99% of polling stations, appending their signatures to the official declaration of polls, commonly referred to as Pink Sheets.

CODEO also highlighted that voting and counting were conducted in accordance with Ghana’s electoral laws and the Constitution, with no significant irregularities reported.

CODEO commended the thousands of volunteers who served as election observers, along with the security agencies for ensuring a peaceful electoral process.

However, it expressed concerns over incidents of post-election violence, including the burning of the EC collation center in Damongo, the destruction of electoral materials, and the unlawful takeover of government properties.

The coalition condemned these acts, urging all political parties to denounce violence and call their supporters to order. CODEO specifically appealed to the NDC leadership to prioritize peaceful engagements and ensure disputes are resolved through lawful means.

Meanwhile, CODEO has advocated for improvements in voter education, election logistics, and proactive measures to prevent violence across all stages of the electoral process.

The coalition encouraged stakeholders, including the EC and political parties, to reflect on the lessons from the 2024 polls to bolster the integrity of future elections.

CODEO gradually becoming indispensable in our electoroal process….I’m happy you acknowledge the need for stronger Voter education but we also have to recognise the need for government and our Development Partners to reprioritise retooling and providing adequate funding for the NCCE to efficiently deal with a sustained civic and Voter education.
