Communications Minister Rejects DSTV’s Pricing Stance, Demands ‘Fairer Deal’ for Ghanaians
Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has hit back at MultiChoice Ghana’s defence of DStv subscription fees, describing the broadcaster’s posture as “dismissive” of the Ghanaian public and lacking sincerity.
In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Mr George criticised the company’s recent statement as failing to address the core issue of pricing, arguing that MultiChoice appears unwilling to take Ghanaian consumers seriously.
“I have read the release by DStv Ghana and taken full consideration that they vindicate my earlier position that they simply do not take the Ghanaian people serious enough,” the legislator stated.
Drawing comparisons with Nigeria, the MP cited a recent episode in which MultiChoice complied with a court order to suspend price increases following parliamentary intervention.
“The same Group operating in Nigeria reversed price increases in Nigeria when the Nigerian authorities sued them. The Nigerian House of Representatives took the matter up and ordered a suspension of the increases. They complied,” he remarked.
