Communications Minister to Address Standoff with MultiChoice Ghana Over DStv Pricing
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel George, is expected to hold a press briefing on Monday, September 29, 2025, to address the government’s standoff with MultiChoice Ghana, operators of DStv, regarding subscription pricing.
The development follows the Minister’s directive to the National Communications Authority (NCA) earlier this month to set up a stakeholder committee to evaluate DStv pricing in Ghana. The committee, which began work on September 8, 2025, is due to submit its report the same day.
Mandated to establish a shared understanding of DStv’s pricing structure, the committee has also been tasked with recommending commercially viable and mutually acceptable measures to address government’s concerns. In addition, it was directed to design a roadmap to tackle the persistent challenge of cross-border piracy of DStv decoders and services from Nigeria into Ghana.
At the press engagement, Mr George is expected to present the committee’s recommendations on restructuring subscription fees and outline potential next steps. The briefing is anticipated to be decisive in clarifying the dispute, which has seen the Minister repeatedly warn of possible suspension of DStv’s operations should the company fail to adjust its prices, while MultiChoice has pushed back against demands for reductions.
