Children of Late Defence Minister Dr Omane Boamah Pay Emotional Tribute
The three children of the late Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, have paid a moving tribute to their father’s memory during a mass service held at the Christ the King Parish in Accra on August 14, 2025.
Speaking in a grief-stricken tone, the youngest of the three — two girls and a boy — addressed her late father directly.
“Your love was steady, your love was gentle, and it was the warmth that filled our home,” she said. “You called us every day when you travelled. You never missed our special moments. You taught us to dream big but stay grounded… and that service to others is the greatest legacy one can leave.”
Overcome with emotion, she continued: “Daddy, why did you leave us so soon?… Who will we call in the middle of the night when we have questions?… You are irreplaceable, Edwardo.”
Dr Omane Boamah was among eight people killed in the Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter crash on August 6 at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region. The delegation was en route to Obuasi for the launch of the Responsible Community and Cooperative Mining Programme.
Other casualties included Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong; and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator. Also killed were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
A state funeral will be held on Friday, August 15, at the Black Star Square in Accra.
