Premier League: Former Liverpool Boss Klopp Ready to Celebrate If City Are Found Guilty Of Charges

In a surprising turn of events, former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has declared that he would host a jubilant celebration on the sunny shores of Mallorca if the Premier League were to strip Manchester City of their titles due to alleged financial breaches. Klopp, who recently took on the role of head of global soccer at Red Bull, made his comments during his first public appearance since leaving Anfield.

Klopp’s Liverpool side has faced fierce competition from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, finishing as runners-up in the Premier League on two occasions: first in the 2018-19 season and again in 2021-22. The rivalry has been intense, with City’s dominance becoming a point of contention for many fans and pundits alike.

The backdrop to Klopp’s comments is the ongoing investigation into Manchester City, which was referred to an independent commission in February 2023. The club faces 115 alleged contraventions of financial regulations spanning from 2009 to 2018. Manchester City has consistently denied any wrongdoing, maintaining their innocence as the hearing continues.

When asked how he would react if the commission were to find City guilty and vacate their league titles, Klopp’s eyes sparkled with enthusiasm. “We had this discussion when I left,” he said. “I haven’t spent a lot of time in Mallorca because I am always flying around the place. But if it would happen, I told all the people who wanted to [come]: ‘Just book a flight to Mallorca. I will buy the beer!’ We’d have our own parade in my garden.”

He admitted that he has not closely followed the details of the hearing, which began in September last year, and is unaware of when a verdict might be reached.
