Cyber Security Authority Raises Alarm Over Recruitment Fraud Linked to GAF Enlistment Exercise

The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has issued a public alert warning the general public of a surge in fake social media accounts impersonating the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), its officers, and senior command.

According to the CSA, the development follows the commencement of the 2025 enlistment and recruitment exercise by the GAF on October 1, 2025. The Authority disclosed that at least eighty-six (86) fake accounts have been identified over the past week, with investigations revealing that the operators of these accounts are engaged in recruitment fraud.

“The CSA is engaging the respective social media platforms to conduct a takedown of the identified profiles while further investigations are being carried out,” the Authority stated.

Fraudulent Schemes and Modus Operandi

The alert outlines several tactics used by fraudsters, including the creation of fake social media profiles using the logos or images of legitimate GAF personnel. These accounts post counterfeit recruitment advertisements designed to lure unsuspecting job seekers.

Victims who express interest in such advertisements are often required to make payments for application forms, medical exams, background checks, uniforms, and other training materials. In some cases, applicants receive fake selection notices and are asked to submit scanned copies of their identity cards, which are later misused for identity theft.

CSA Issues Safety Recommendations

The Authority has advised the public to disregard all recruitment advertisements circulating on social media platforms and to verify any official GAF recruitment information through institutional websites such as https://apply.mil.gh.

It further cautioned individuals against clicking on suspicious links or making payments for applications, tests, or training, stressing that the GAF does not charge any fees for recruitment processes.

The CSA also urged the public to report fake profiles and suspected fraudulent activities directly to the Authority via its 24-hour Cybersecurity/Cybercrime Incident Reporting Point of Contact (PoC) by calling or texting 292, using WhatsApp on 0501603111, or emailing report@csa.gov.gh.
