I will be the one to read the 2023 budget – Ofori-Atta says

Finance Chief, Ken Ofori-Atta, has said he will be the one to present the 2023 Budget Statement to Parliament on November 24, 2022.

Speaking to the media on who was to present the 2023 budget after his censure motion hearing, the Finance Minister averred, “Expect me to read the 2023 budget, I am not aware of anybody who is supposed to do that (sic),” he said.

Mr Ofori-Atta’s insistence to read the 2023 budget is despite threats by majority of NPP MPs to boycott the 2023 Budget Statement if the Finance Minister is not sacked by the President.

The 2023 budget was earlier scheduled to be presented on November 15, 2022 but had to be later postponed to November 24, 2022.

Justifying the postponement of the presentation of the 2023 budget statement, Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, noted the 2023 Budget Statement presentation was being delayed due to ongoing negotiations with the IMF.

The delay, the Majority Leader noted, was also to allow Cabinet consider and make inputs into the programme to be agreed with the IMF before it is incorporated into the 2023 Budget Statement.
