Deloitte Ghana Calls for Investment in Digital Infrastructure, AI to Drive TMT Sector Growth

Country Manager for Deloitte Ghana, Daniel Owusu, has urged Ghana to deepen investment in digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to position the country to fully harness emerging opportunities in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) sectors.

Delivering opening remarks at a webinar on projections for the TMT sectors for 2026 organised by Deloitte Ghana, Mr Owusu noted that the rapid evolution of digital technologies is reshaping the media landscape and creating new opportunities for content creators and businesses.

According to him, the rise of video podcasts and the increasing independence of digital content creators signal a major shift towards mobile-first, consumer-centric storytelling.

“You would have seen the rise of video podcasts and the growing independence of digital content creators all signal a shift towards mobile-first consumer-centric storytelling,” he stated.

Mr Owusu added that independent media producers in Ghana now have access to tools that were previously available only to major global studios, largely due to the emergence of generative AI and the democratization of digital platforms.

These developments, he explained, are opening new opportunities for Ghanaian cultural exports, local storytelling and broader participation in global entertainment markets.

Touching on enterprise technology, Mr Owusu observed that artificial intelligence is also transforming software-as-a-service platforms, making enterprise applications more intelligent, adaptive and tailored to the needs of organisations.

He indicated that such innovations are particularly important for Ghanaian businesses seeking to improve operational efficiency and remain competitive in an increasingly digital global economy.

“This evolution is crucial for Ghana’s small and large enterprises striving for agility, efficiency and global competitiveness,” he said.

Mr Owusu further highlighted the growing importance of technology sovereignty, describing it as a strategic priority for countries aiming to strengthen control over their digital infrastructure and data ecosystems.

For Ghana and the wider African region, he said this requires significant investments in data centres, cloud infrastructure, next-generation connectivity and AI capabilities.

He stressed that building these capabilities would help prepare the country for a future where digital sovereignty becomes both an economic and national security priority.

Mr Owusu emphasised that the TMT sectors have evolved beyond traditional industry boundaries and now play a critical role in national development.

“Technology, media and telecommunications are no longer mere sectors. They are engines of national growth and vehicles for strategic ambition,” he remarked.

He therefore called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders across government, industry and the broader digital ecosystem to unlock the full potential of the sector.

“As the world narrows the gap between technological promises and reality, let Ghana be bold and intentional—empowering our workforce, safeguarding our data and connecting our communities,” he added.
