Asante Kotoko part ways with goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad and 10 others

Asante Kotoko have announced the departure of goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad among 11 players, ending their contracts by mutual consent following a challenging season.

Danlad, who joined Kotoko in 2016, struggled to secure a regular spot in the recently concluded season, often finding himself as the second or third choice behind coach Prosper Ogum’s preferred goalkeeper, Frederick Asare.

Despite his previous success, including a call-up to Ghana’s squad for the 2022 World Cup and a standout performance in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in 2021, Danlad’s form dipped, limiting his role at Kotoko, where he also served as captain.

In addition to Danlad, the club confirmed the departures of Kalo Ouattara, Nicholas Osei Bonsu, Isaac Oppong, Augustine Agyapong, Nicholas Mensah, John Tedeku, Sherif Mohammed, George Mfegue, Serge Eric Zeze, and Moise Pouaty.

Kotoko expressed gratitude for their services and wished them well for the future.

Kotoko’s season saw them finish in sixth place after a series of struggles, including a seven-match winless streak that prompted a meeting with club owner Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. The meeting helped stabilise the team, leading to crucial victories, including a 2-0 win against fierce rivals Hearts of Oak.
