Dortmund, Fluminense, and Inter Milan Secure Key Wins in FIFA Club World Cup
The FIFA Club World Cup delivered a weekend of exhilarating matches as Borussia Dortmund, Fluminense FC, and Inter Milan each claimed vital victories to boost their chances of advancing in the tournament.
Mamelodi Sundowns 3-4 Borussia Dortmund
In a gripping encounter, Dortmund overcame Mamelodi Sundowns 4-3 at TQL Stadium. Sundowns struck first in the 11th minute with a solo goal from Lucas Ribeiro. However, Dortmund quickly responded, with Felix Nmecha equalizing after capitalizing on a mistake by Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.
Serhou Guirassy then put Dortmund ahead with a powerful header, followed by Jobe Bellingham scoring his first goal for the club just before halftime. Despite a late fightback from Sundowns, Dortmund held on for the win, keeping them at the top of Group F.
Fluminense FC 4-2 Ulsan HD
Fluminense staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Ulsan HD 4-2 at MetLife Stadium in New York. After trailing 2-1 at halftime, Fluminense scored three second-half goals to secure their first victory of the tournament.
Jhon Arias opened the scoring with a stunning free-kick, but Ulsan equalized and took the lead before the break. Fluminense leveled the match in the 66th minute through Nonato, regained the lead with a goal from Juan Freytes, and sealed the win with a late strike from Keno. Ulsan’s defeat eliminated them from the competition.
Inter Milan 2-1 Urawa Red Diamonds
Inter Milan also enjoyed success, defeating Urawa Red Diamonds 2-1. Urawa took an early lead, but Inter captain Lautaro Martinez equalized with a spectacular overhead kick. Valentin Carboni then struck in stoppage time to secure the victory and knock Urawa out of the tournament.
With these results, Dortmund and Inter are in strong positions to advance to the knockout stages, while Sundowns and Urawa face tough challenges ahead.
