Sports Ministry Approves $1.12 Million for Black Stars’ World Cup Qualifying Matches
In a significant boost for the Black Stars, Ghana’s Ministry of Sports and Recreation has approved a budget of $1,120,000 for the national team’s final matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. The funding will support the team’s crucial games against the Central African Republic and Comoros next month as they aim to secure a spot at the prestigious tournament.
The Black Stars are set to play their first match against the Central African Republic in Casablanca on October 8, followed by a home fixture against Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on October 12. With the stakes high, this financial backing is expected to bolster the team’s preparations and performance.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) submitted a budget that fell within an acceptable range, and the Ministry did not require any comments,” stated Kofi Adams, speaking at a press conference. “The GFA formally submitted the estimates for both matches on September 18, and we forwarded it to the Office of the President the very next day.”
The budget breakdown reveals that $733,000 will be allocated for the away game in Casablanca, while $387,000 is earmarked for the home game in Accra. The funds will cover essential expenses such as travel, accommodation, per diems for players and officials, training logistics, officiating fees, and match bonuses.
In emphasizing the government’s commitment to the national team, the Ministry called on all stakeholders—including administrators, technical staff, and players—to uphold their responsibilities and ensure a culture of discipline and performance.
