Dr. Johnson Asiamah Named Governor of Bank of Ghana
President John Mahama has nominated Dr. Johnson Asiamah as the new Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), following the impending retirement of the current Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison.
Dr. Addison, who has led the central bank since 2017, formally requested to proceed on leave ahead of his retirement on March 31, 2025.
His request has been accepted, paving the way for Dr. Asiamah’s appointment.
A seasoned economist and former Deputy Governor of the BoG, Dr. Asiamah brings over 23 years of experience in monetary policy formulation, financial stability regulation, and economic management.
Throughout his career, he has played a key role in implementing sound monetary and exchange rate policies, ensuring financial sector stability, and promoting economic growth in Ghana.
His appointment is expected to maintain continuity in the Bank’s policies while addressing emerging challenges in Ghana’s macroeconomic environment.
