Volta River Aviation Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing in Eastern Region

A Volta River Aviation helicopter made an emergency landing on Monday morning at Nkawkaw, near the Nkawkaw bypass in Ghana’s Eastern Region, after poor visibility forced the pilot to divert from its route.

The Jet A-1 aircraft, registered 9G-AFW, had been travelling from Accra to Kumasi when harsh weather conditions in the Kwahu West Municipality prompted the unscheduled landing. Citi News reported that both the pilot and crew escaped unharmed.

The incident follows another precautionary landing last week, when a helicopter with registration 9G-ADW touched down at a school park in Ajumako Kokoben, Central Region, after encountering low visibility and turbulent winds.

That aircraft, carrying four passengers, remained grounded for about an hour while the crew assessed conditions before resuming the flight.

The two incidents come just days after a military helicopter crash on August 6 in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region, killed eight people, including two cabinet ministers, three government officials and three Ghana Air Force crew members.

The crash has heightened public concern over aviation safety amid adverse weather conditions affecting parts of the country.
