Duncan Williams, Eastwood Anaba demand transparency in controversial National Cathedral project
Two prominent members of the Board of Trustees for Ghana’s National Cathedral project, Duncan Williams and Eastwood Anaba, have called for an immediate suspension and independent audit of the project, citing concerns about transparency and accountability.
In a memo sent to the Board of Trustees on Monday, Archbishop Duncan Williams and Reverend Eastwood Anaba called for an independent, nationally recognized accounting firm to conduct an audit of all public funds contributed to and spent by the National Cathedral, including an audit of the overall cost of the project.
The memo also calls for the deferment of activities of the Board of Trustees until the economic conditions in Ghana have improved.
The National Cathedral project has been a source of controversy in Ghana, with questions raised by the minority in parliament about accountability and relevance in the face of the country’s economic crisis.
This follows the resignation of Bishop Dag Heward-Mills from the Cathedral’s Board of Trustees in August 2022, citing unresolved concerns about the cost of the project and other issues.
