Gov’t mulls debt operation in a move to restore debt sustainability
Government, in a move to reduce pressures on the 2023 budget and restore debt sustainability, is contemplating undertaking a debt operation.
The Central Government’s decision to possibly undertake a debt operation, the Finance Ministry notes in a statement issued on Thursday, November 24, forms part of ongoing negotiations with the IMF.
Although the full details of the proposed debt operation has not been revealed by the Ministry, the Ministry asserts that, it will possibly affect principal and interest payments on government securities.
The Ministry in the statement reiterated government’s commitment to rolling out lasting solutions to the country’s present macroeconomic challenges and restoring debt sustainability.
