Alcaraz Edges Past Dzumhur as Sabalenka and Zheng Shine at French Open

Carlos Alcaraz faced a tough challenge in his third-round match at the French Open, but managed to secure a spot in the fourth round with a 6-1, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Bosnia’s Damir Dzumhur. Despite a dip in form, the second seed rallied to overcome a break deficit in the fourth set, showcasing his resilience on the clay courts of Roland Garros.

“I was a break down in the fourth and just tried to calm myself,” Alcaraz commented after the match. “I let him get into his game, but I was happy to take my chances in the fourth set and play great tennis at the end.”

In other action, world number one Aryna Sabalenka continued her quest for a maiden French Open title, dispatching Olga Danilovic with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 victory. The three-time Grand Slam champion demonstrated her formidable form, racing to a 5-0 lead in the first set and holding off a brief resurgence from Danilovic.

Zheng Qinwen, the Olympic champion, also advanced smoothly, defeating Grand Slam debutant Victoria Mboko 6-3, 6-4. The eighth seed’s performance reaffirmed her status as a strong contender in the tournament.

Defending champion Iga Swiatek extended her impressive winning streak at Roland Garros to 24 matches, overcoming Jaqueline Cristian 6-2, 7-5. Swiatek commented on the challenging conditions, noting the temperature rise from 20 to 30 degrees Celsius during her match, but expressed confidence in her adaptability.

Other notable matches saw Holger Rune survive a grueling five-set battle against Quentin Halys, while Lorenzo Musetti and Tommy Paul also advanced after tough encounters. As the tournament progresses, the excitement builds for the upcoming clashes, including Swiatek facing fellow Grand Slam champion Elena Rybakina.
