Cadillac Receive Final Approval to Join Formula 1 Grid in 2026 as 11th Team

The Cadillac Formula 1 Team has officially received final approval to join the prestigious racing series in 2026, marking a significant milestone for both the team and the sport. Backed by TWG Motorsports and General Motors (GM), Cadillac is set to become the 11th team on the F1 grid, enhancing the competition and excitement in the championship.

Today, the FIA and Formula One Management announced that Cadillac has met all necessary requirements to compete alongside the existing ten teams starting next season. Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, expressed his enthusiasm for Cadillac’s entry, stating, “The commitment by General Motors to bring a Cadillac team to Formula 1 was an important and positive demonstration of the evolution of our sport.”

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem echoed this sentiment, calling the announcement a transformative moment for the championship. “The expansion to an 11th team in 2026 is a milestone,” he said. “GM/Cadillac brings fresh energy, aligning with the new FIA 2026 regulations and ushering in an exciting era for the sport.”

Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Motorsports, emphasized the rigorous preparation that has been underway. “We have worked hand in hand with GM to lay a robust foundation for an extraordinary Formula 1 entry,” Towriss noted. “Now, with 2026 in our sights, we’re accelerating our efforts—expanding our facilities, refining cutting-edge technologies, and continuing to assemble top-tier talent.”

Mark Reuss, President of GM, shared his excitement, stating, “We’re thrilled the Cadillac Formula 1 Team is official. The excitement only grows as we get closer to showcasing GM’s engineering expertise on the prestigious global stage of F1.”

The team has already made significant appointments, including former Marussia Sporting Director Graeme Lowdon as Team Principal and industry veteran Russ O’Blenes as CEO of TWG GM Performance Power Units. These strategic moves aim to position Cadillac as a “full works” team by the end of the decade.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the effort put in thus far by the entire Cadillac Formula 1 team,” Lowdon said. “This announcement is the next step in getting on the grid and continuing our work toward building a full-works team.”

O’Blenes added that the ongoing development of their power unit is a priority, stating, “We’ve been working hard to hire top-tier talent, and we look forward to running our first V6 in the near future.”

The Cadillac outfit, with bases in Fishers, Indiana; Charlotte, North Carolina; Warren, Michigan; and Silverstone, England, has assembled a dedicated team of over 200 professionals focused on aerodynamics, chassis development, and vehicle dynamics simulation.
