Cole Palmer Named England’s Men’s Player of the Year for 2023-24
Chelsea star Cole Palmer has been awarded England’s Men’s Player of the Year for 2023-24. Despite coming off the bench to score in the Euro 2024 final, England fell to Spain 2-1 in Berlin.
At just 22 years old, Palmer has made only nine appearances for the national team, including two starts, yet he triumphed over Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka in the public vote. Since making his debut in a 2-0 win against Malta last November, he has netted two international goals, with his latest coming in the final against Spain.
Palmer is the first Chelsea player to receive this accolade since Ashley Cole in 2010. Since joining Chelsea from Manchester City last season, he has directly contributed to 44 league goals (28 goals and 16 assists). Among players in Europe’s top five leagues, only Harry Kane has provided more goal contributions during this period, with 53 (41 goals and 12 assists).
Earlier this season, Palmer made history by becoming the first player to score four goals in the first half of a Premier League match, leading Chelsea to a 4-2 victory over Brighton. He is expected to play when England faces Greece in the Nations League on Thursday.
