MTN FA Cup: Nsoatreman beat Bofoakwa Tano to clinch first major trophy

Nsoatreman FC emerged as the champions of the 2023/24 MTN FA Cup, claiming their first-ever title in a dramatic 5-4 penalty shootout victory against Bofoakwa Tano.

The match, held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, was filled with high tension and excitement as both teams battled fiercely to end their football season on a high note.

The encounter began with both teams showing determination and vigour. Nsoatreman SC, who finished an impressive fourth in the recently concluded Ghana Premier League, were keen to add a trophy to their successful season.

On the other hand, Bofoakwa Tano, who faced the heartbreak of relegation from the top flight after a hard-fought return following 16 years, saw this match as a chance to salvage their season.

Bofoakwa Tano took the lead in the 22nd minute through a well-placed goal by Richard Dzikoe. The Sunyani-based team looked poised to lift the trophy as they maintained their lead deep into the second half.

However, with just 11 minutes left on the clock, Sadat Mohammed of Nsoatreman SC struck a crucial equaliser, ensuring the game would head into extra time.

Extra time saw both teams creating opportunities but failing to find the back of the net, leading to a tense penalty shootout to decide the winner. In the shootout, Nsoatreman FC held their nerve and emerged victorious with a 5-4 scoreline, sparking jubilant celebrations among their players and supporters.

This historic victory secures Nsoatreman FC’s first MTN FA Cup title and grants them the honour of representing Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.

Additionally, they will participate in the GHALCA Top 4 tournament scheduled for August, providing them with valuable preparation for the upcoming season.
