Cardinal Namdini Mining Project to be Commissioned in Northern Ghana

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Samuel A. Jinapor, has announced that the government is expected to commission the Cardinal Namdini Mining project, the largest gold mining operation in Northern Ghana in November 2024.

The project is set to become the third-largest mining company in the country and one of the major players on the African continent.

During a tour of the site in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region on Thursday, the Minister said the project would enhance Ghana’s reputation as a leading gold producer in the world.

“This is the first large-scale gold mine in the North, marking a historic moment. It will significantly contribute to our economy and provide substantial employment opportunities while promoting development in the Talensi area.

“This is the first greenfield gold mine project for almost a decade. It was built from scratch and I’m here to see the progress of work. This is momentous and exciting,” the minister added.

Mr Jinapor commended the company’s management and staff for their dedication since the inception of the project.

“The company has received all necessary approvals from relevant regulatory bodies, including the Environmental Protection Agency,” he added.

On his part, the Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, Kugbilsong Nanlebeglang described the establishment of the mining company as a transformative development for both the region and the nation.

He expressed confidence that the company would fulfil its Corporate Social Responsibility and operate in an environmentally sustainable manner.

“The local youth will benefit from significant employment opportunities, leading to considerable development in the area,” he added.
