Energy Minister Discloses Plans to Export Petroleum Products to Burkina Faso

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has commended the leadership of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST) for what he described as “commendable operational efficiency” and a growing role in Ghana’s energy transformation agenda.

Mr Jinapor lauded the performance of the state-owned oil logistics firm, citing its role in improving Ghana’s strategic petroleum reserves and deepening regional fuel distribution.

“I’m beginning to see positive trends at BOST, and we are already working to ensure that we extend a pipeline from Ghana to Burkina Faso. This will position Ghana as the main hub for Burkina to lift petroleum products,” Mr Jinapor stated.

He further singled out the company’s Managing Director, Afetsi Awoonor, and his deputy for praise, attributing the recent gains to strong leadership and strategic focus.

“BOST is working very well to improve our strategic reserves, and I commend the Managing Director and his team for showing strong leadership and competence,” he added.

BOST, incorporated in 1993, plays a critical role in Ghana’s energy security architecture. It is responsible for the storage and distribution of petroleum products, as well as maintaining strategic fuel reserves and facilitating petroleum transport logistics across the sub-region.

Turning to broader developments in the energy sector, Mr Jinapor expressed optimism about the sector’s trajectory over the last seven months under his stewardship, identifying three major achievements:

Stabilisation of Power Supply:

The Minister emphasised improved reliability in electricity delivery nationwide, describing it as a “critical undertaking” that has seen notable progress. “We have worked tirelessly to ensure a consistent and reliable energy supply for all Ghanaians,” he remarked.

Strengthened Petroleum Reserves:

Highlighting gains in energy security, Mr Jinapor revealed that efforts to build up the country’s fuel reserves are already bearing fruit. “We have increased our petroleum reserves, and the results are beginning to show,” he noted.

Sector-Wide Reforms:

In a push for transparency, the Energy Minister said the Ministry had rolled out sweeping reforms aimed at rooting out corruption and enhancing accountability. “We have launched a comprehensive initiative to clean up the energy sector, tackle corruption, and promote transparency,” he said.

Mr Jinapor ended his remarks with a rallying call for continued collaboration across the public and private sectors, adding, “I am confident that we will continue to build on these achievements for a brighter energy future.”
