Energy Ministry Establishes Committee to Explore Private Sector Participation in Electricity Retail

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has established a Committee to assess and recommend options for private sector participation in the retail segment of Ghana’s electricity value chain.

In a statement dated February 3, 2025, the Ministry disclosed that the Committee is mandated to conduct broad consultations with private sector players to gather insights, perspectives, and position papers from key stakeholders. These engagements are expected to inform the Committee’s study and subsequent recommendations.

According to the Ministry, the overarching goal of this initiative is to enhance electricity service delivery for socioeconomic development. Specifically, the engagement seeks to improve supply reliability and quality, ensure timely response to customer complaints, boost customer satisfaction, and address revenue losses within the electricity sector.

The establishment of the Committee aligns with ongoing efforts to introduce efficiency and sustainability in Ghana’s power sector while leveraging private sector expertise and investment to enhance service delivery.
