Eni Ghana and Partners Submit Declaration of Commerciality for Development of Eban-Akoma Discoveries
Eni Ghana and its Joint Venture (JV) partners have officially submitted the Declaration of Commerciality for the Eban-Akoma hydrocarbon discoveries within the Cape Three Points Block 4 (CTP-B4), marking a significant step towards the commercial development of the fields.
The declaration, submitted on July 3, 2025, follows the successful completion of an appraisal programme that confirmed the commercial viability of the Eban-1X oil discovery and the Akoma-1X gas and condensate find. The JV partners include Eni Ghana Exploration & Production Ltd, Vitol Upstream Tano Ltd, Woodfields Upstream Ghana Ltd, and GNPC Exploration & Production Company Ltd (Explorco).
As operator of the block, Eni Ghana will work in close collaboration with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), the Petroleum Commission, and the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition to develop a comprehensive Plan of Development (PoD) for the two discoveries.
Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, hailed the Declaration of Commerciality as a critical milestone in Ghana’s journey toward energy self-sufficiency and economic transformation.
“It highlights the immense potential of our offshore resources to fuel economic transformation, enhance energy security, and drive Ghana’s industrialisation agenda,” the Minister stated.
The submission of the PoD is expected to outline strategies for optimal resource recovery, value maximisation, and an increased focus on local content in line with Ghana’s energy sector policies. The Ministry, together with the Petroleum Commission and GNPC, has committed to providing continuous oversight to ensure the effective and transparent implementation of the project.
The Eban-Akoma development is poised to bolster Ghana’s position as a key player in the regional oil and gas industry, while delivering sustainable economic benefits to the country and its citizens.
The move underscores the government’s determination to build a resilient, transparent, and investor-friendly energy sector that contributes meaningfully to national growth.
