Carabao Cup: Eze Shines with First Goal for Arsenal; Man City, Newcastle United join Advance to Last 16
Eberechi Eze scored his first goal for Arsenal, leading the Gunners to a 2-0 victory over Port Vale and securing their place in the League Cup fourth round alongside Manchester City, Tottenham, and Newcastle.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta showcased the depth of his squad by making nine changes from Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City, including starting Eze, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli. Eze, who joined Arsenal from Crystal Palace last month in a deal potentially worth £68 million, made an immediate impact by scoring just eight minutes into the match. He capitalized on a flick from Myles Lewis-Skelly to give Arsenal a quick lead.
Despite dominating possession, Arsenal struggled to extend their advantage. Port Vale’s Devante Cole, son of former Manchester United striker Andy Cole, came the closest to equalizing, with a shot that narrowly sailed over the bar.
The match was finally put to rest in the 85th minute when Leandro Trossard found the net with a powerful shot into the bottom corner, sealing the win for Arsenal.
In other League Cup action, Manchester City continued their strong form with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield, thanks to a goal and an assist from Phil Foden. Foden, showing signs of returning to his best form, opened the scoring with a low drive in the 18th minute. City had to wait until the 75th minute to secure the win when Savinho scored from a narrow angle after receiving a pass from Foden.
Defending champions Newcastle defeated Bradford 4-1 at St. James’ Park, with Joelinton and William Osula both scoring twice. Meanwhile, Tottenham cruised to a 3-0 victory over Doncaster, with an early overhead kick from Joao Palhinha setting the tone for the match.
