Finance Minister-Designate Vows to Tackle Wasteful Government Spending
Finance Minister-designate, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has committed to prioritising efficiency and fiscal discipline in the management of Ghana’s resources.
Speaking during his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Dr. Forson emphasised the need to eliminate wasteful government expenditures as a crucial step toward economic stability.
“Governance is not about borrowing and borrowing,” he stated. “It’s time to cut the waste, and I’ll lead the charge.”
Dr. Forson highlighted his dedication to ensuring judicious utilisation of state resources and stressed that wasteful spending must be curtailed to restore economic resilience.
Acknowledging the importance of collaboration, he assured the Committee of his readiness to work with development partners to secure low-cost financing when necessary. However, he maintained that reducing inefficiencies would remain his foremost priority.
The Finance Minister-designate also outlined his commitment to fostering accountability and sustainability in public financial management, aiming to rebuild trust and address Ghana’s pressing economic challenges.
Dr. Forson’s statements reflect a potential paradigm shift in the country’s fiscal management strategy, prioritising prudent resource utilisation over dependency on borrowing.
