First FICAC Pan African Conference takes place in Accra 

On Saturday, 27th May 2023, the Kempinski Hotel in Accra played host to the highly anticipated FICAC Pan African Conference for Honorary Consuls on the African continent. Organised by the Honorary Consular Corps Ghana (HCCGH), under the leadership of the Dean, Hon. Dimitrios Avraam, this prestigious event brought together esteemed honorary consuls from across the African continent.

The Conference featured distinguished guest speakers, including the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Ghana, Maher Khier, and Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, who delivered an insightful speech on women in diplomacy. Notably, the President, Vice President, and General Secretary of FICAC (World Federation of Consuls) were also in attendance.

Under the theme “FICAC’s Perspectives on Africa and the Role of Honorary Consuls,” the Conference provided a platform for thought-provoking discussions on the evolving diplomatic landscape in Africa and the essential role played by honorary consuls in advancing diplomatic relations and fostering economic development.

The highlight of the conference was the keynote address delivered by Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey. Her speech focused on the significant contributions of women in diplomacy, shedding light on their pivotal role in shaping diplomatic policies, promoting peace and security, and championing gender equality. The Minister emphasised the need for increased representation of women in diplomatic circles, highlighting their unique perspectives, skills, and experiences that enrich decision-making processes.

The Honorary Consular Corps Ghana (HCCGH) is a body of all Honorary Consuls in Ghana which was established in 1996. The Group currently has currently has 40 members.
