First-Time U.S. Voters Highlight Civil Rights and Social Issues as Key Election Priorities

In the lead-up to the U.S. elections in November, first-time voters are voicing strong concerns over key humanitarian and socio-economic issues, according to a recent X Space discussion hosted by NorvanReports in collaboration with the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) and the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII).

The X Space discussion titled, “Thumbs and Voices: Activating First-Time Voters in Ghana and U.S. Elections,” brought into focus the priorities of young voters as they prepare to cast their ballots in the contest between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Ally Schmidt, one of the first-time voters, underscored the importance of safeguarding civil rights, particularly around women’s reproductive freedoms and protections for the LGBTQ+ community.

“Some U.S. leaders have actively threatened women’s access to safe abortions and the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals,” Schmidt said, adding that these issues would guide her choice at the polls.

She further stressed the need for leaders with experience, integrity, and a concrete commitment to preserving these fundamental rights.

“I want a candidate who will prioritize these concerns and ensure continued access to health care for vulnerable groups,” she remarked.

Another voter, Errol Bankson, outlined his focus on tackling homelessness and making health care and housing more affordable.

Bankson expressed frustration with the challenges in securing affordable living spaces and medical care, particularly in his community, where many, including military veterans, struggle to find basic services.

“It’s unacceptable that so many veterans who served our country return to face homelessness and lack of support,” he remarked, emphasizing the need for policy solutions that address these growing concerns.

As the U.S. prepares for a critical election in November, these first-time voters reflect a broader electorate increasingly focused on social justice, economic inequality, and access to essential services and are seeking candidates who can deliver meaningful change in these areas.

It is a comfort to know the future voters of these United States are following their own values & not the marching orders of political parties. I hope the parties, the politicians & the Country All listen, change, grow & provide for all Americans in All Ways. that is what Government by & for the People should look like & be like.

The discovery is in my hometown. The government must manage this well to the benefit of Mankoadze and Bewaze and Ghana in general.
