Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom Demands Overhaul of Ghana Football Association After Tragic Incident

Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom Demands Overhaul of Ghana Football Association After Tragic Incident

In the wake of the tragic death of an Asante Kotoko fan during a recent match, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom has voiced urgent calls for significant reforms within the Ghana Football Association (GFA). His statements come after the stabbing of Francis Yaw Frimpong, a devoted Kotoko supporter, during the Ghana Premier League matchday 19 clash on February 2, 2025.

The violent incident, which has sparked national outrage, occurred in Nsoatre and has led to the arrests of three individuals, including former Member of Parliament Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, in connection with the disturbances that marred the match.

Dr. Nduom, the founder of the Progressive People’s Party and a prominent business consultant, emphasized the necessity for a more transparent and accountable governing body. He expressed concern that the current leadership of the GFA prioritizes the interests of a select few over the welfare of clubs, players, and referees.

“The GFA needs a serious overhaul. A few people at the top feed on FIFA money and leave the clubs, referees, and players hungry. What are we waiting for? More deaths, bankruptcies, and Black Stars losses?” he articulated in a passionate Facebook post.

The GFA has initiated measures to investigate the incident and has already charged those involved. However, Nduom’s calls for reform highlight a growing sentiment among fans and stakeholders that systemic changes are necessary to ensure the safety and integrity of football in Ghana.

As the football community processes the fallout from this tragic event, all Ghana Premier League fixtures have been postponed this weekend. The GFA’s response and efforts to implement lasting solutions will be under close scrutiny, as the nation demands a safer and more accountable football environment.

The call for change is not just about the recent incident; it reflects a broader desire for a governance structure that prioritizes the overall health of Ghanaian football. As stakeholders await the GFA’s next steps, the push for reform continues to gain momentum, signaling a critical moment for the future of football in the country.
