French Open: Alcaraz Dominates to Reach Semifinals; Swiatek and Sabalenka Set for Epic Showdown
Reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz powered his way into the French Open semifinals with a commanding performance against American 12th seed Tommy Paul, winning decisively 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 in just over an hour and a half. The Spaniard showcased his dominance on Court Philippe Chatrier, delivering 40 winners and displaying exceptional form as he prepares to face Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti.
“I had to do my work,” Alcaraz remarked, reflecting on his near-flawless display. This victory sets up a rematch with Musetti, whom Alcaraz has already defeated twice this clay-court season.
Meanwhile, three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek advanced to the semifinals with a straight-sets win over 13th seed Elina Svitolina, triumphing 6-1, 7-5. The fifth seed broke Svitolina early and maintained control throughout, even as the second set proved more competitive. Swiatek is now set to face world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, who overcame Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen 7-6 (7/3), 6-3 in a tense quarterfinal.
Sabalenka battled back after a shaky start, capitalizing on Zheng’s unforced errors to secure her spot in the last four. “I was more fresh and ready to battle,” the Belarusian said, looking forward to her matchup against Swiatek.
As the semifinals approach, the stage is set for a thrilling showdown between Swiatek and Sabalenka, while Alcaraz continues his quest to defend his title.
