French Open: Gauff Survives Error-Riddled Match; Boisson Shocks Andreeva to Reach Semi-finals
Coco Gauff advanced to the semifinals of the French Open with a hard-fought victory over fellow American Madison Keys, winning 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-1 in a match plagued by unforced errors. The contest saw both players surpass the 100-error mark, with Gauff benefitting from Keys’ mistakes to secure her spot in the next round.
Gauff, the world No. 2, struggled with her own game, recording 10 double faults throughout the match. Despite the chaotic play, she managed to rally after losing the first set in a tense tiebreak, where she double-faulted three times. “I’m happy to get through this match today, I have a lot more work to do,” Gauff said post-match, acknowledging the need for improvement ahead of her semifinal.
The young star, who reached the final at Roland Garros in 2022, will next face France’s Lois Boisson, who continued her remarkable run by defeating sixth seed Mirra Andreeva 7-6(8), 6-3. Boisson, ranked 361st in the world, is making her Grand Slam debut and has already taken out third seed Jessica Pegula in earlier rounds.
“I felt incredible playing in front of this crowd,” Boisson expressed after her victory on Court Philippe Chatrier. “It was amazing, thank you.” She has quickly become a fan favorite, and her confident demeanor suggests she is ready for the challenge ahead.
