From Hamilton’s Home Runs To Senna’s Monaco Magic – The Most Wins At A Single Circuit In The History Of F1

Lewis Hamilton made history during last weekend’s British Grand Prix as he not only ended a wait of almost 1,000 days for a race win but set a new record for the most victories at one F1 track – topping up his Silverstone tally to an incredible nine triumphs.

With that in mind, we’ve gone through the history books to see who has starred at specific circuits around the world…

Five wins – From Prost to Verstappen

A host of drivers have hit five wins at the same venue over the years, with the aforementioned Hamilton managing it at the Sochi Autodrom, the Bahrain International Circuit, the Yas Marina Circuit, Monza and Austin’s Circuit of The Americas.

Michael Schumacher has done the same across four tracks, winning at Monza, Indianapolis, the Nurburgring and Monaco, while Max Verstappen (Mexico’s Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez and Austria’s Red Bull Ring) and Alain Prost (Silverstone and Rio de Janeiro’s Jacarepagua) have achieved the feat twice.

There’s also room for Sebastian Vettel, Ayrton Senna and Graham Hill in this section, with the German, Brazilian and British racers reaching the milestone at Singapore’s Marina Bay Street Circuit, Spa-Francorchamps and Monaco respectively.

Six wins – Senna, Schumacher and Hamilton

A slightly smaller number of drivers have gone a step further and won at the same track on six occasions, and it is Schumacher who this time leads the way with half a dozen victories at Spa-Francorchamps, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and Suzuka.

Hamilton features again with six wins at the Shanghai International Circuit and in Barcelona, while Senna famously reached this tally around the tight, twisty and demanding streets of Monte Carlo – eclipsing ‘Mr Monaco’ Hill with his final Monaco triumph in 1993.

Eight wins – Schumacher and Hamilton

Hamilton and Schumacher continue the theme as we move up to eight wins at a single venue, which is the number the current Mercedes man and the former Ferrari star achieved at the Hungaroring and at Magny-Cours respectively.

Schumacher’s win at the French circuit back in 2002 also saw him secure the fifth of his seven world titles after just 11 rounds of competition, equalling the legendary Juan Manuel Fangio’s record that was set more than 40 years before him.

Nine wins – Hamilton

Now we move into all-new territory, with Hamilton’s determined drive to victory last time out meaning he has a scarcely believable nine wins from 19 races at Silverstone – the first coming in 2008 with a memorable performance in wet/dry conditions.

And incredibly, Hamilton has the chance to match his own record at the very next race, given the fact he has also scored eight wins in Hungary, as mentioned above.

The former McLaren racer took his first Hungarian Grand Prix win in his rookie season of 2007, and has since added a further seven triumphs in Budapest, most recently in 2020. So if he follows up his Silverstone win with victory at the Hungaroring next week, he’ll tip his tally up to nine wins at two different circuits…
