Furnish me with update on 90% completion of Essipon Stadium – MP to Ken Ofori-Atta

Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan Constituency, Joe Ghartey, has demanded of the Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta to provide him with an update on the rehabilitation works of the Essipon Stadium in his constituency.

The demand for an update on the rehabilitation works of the stadium, follows the Finance Minister’s assertion of rehabilitation of the stadium being 90 percent complete during his presentation of the 2022 budget statement.

“Mr. Speaker, some stadia across the country were renovated in 2021 and are at various stages of completion as follows: Accra Sports Stadium – 98% complete; Phase I of Baba Yara Stadium – 98% complete; Essipong Stadium – 90% complete; and Cape Coast Stadium – 60% complete,” noted the Finance Minister.

“My checks reveal otherwise, as a Member of Parliament for the area, I would be grateful if you could furnish me with an update of the said project which is Iocated in my constituency,” read parts of the letter addressed to the Finance Minister.

In a related development, government in the 2022 budget has expressed its commitment to  to completing the Borteyman Sports Complex before the commencement of the 2023 Africa Games slated to be hosted in Ghana.

Government initially announced plans to construct a 50,000 capacity stadium at Borteyman to host the games but those plans were shelved in favor of constructing a multi-purpose complex instead to support the Legon Stadium to host the games.

A sod was cut in August 2021 to mark the start of construction on the site and it is expected to be completed months before Ghana hosts the continent in the 13th edition of the African Games.

Addressing parliament in the 2022 Budget presentation, the finance minister said government will procure logistics and equipment to begin construction of the multipurpose sports complex.
