2026 Budget Hearings Conclude with Focus on Accountability and Resource Allocation
Ghana’s 2026 Budget Hearings have officially closed following final presentations on Monday by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Works and Housing.
The hearings, conducted annually by the Budget Office of the Ministry of Finance, are designed to review the financial and non-financial performance of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) for the current fiscal year while critically examining their budget submissions for the year ahead.
Mandated under Regulation 17(3) of the Public Financial Management Regulation, 2019 (L.I. 2378), the process seeks to ensure alignment between government priorities and MDA programmes, strengthen accountability, and guide effective allocation of public resources.
This year’s sessions provided a platform for MDAs to defend their proposals, programmes, and projects, with emphasis placed on efficiency and value for money.
With the conclusion of today’s hearings, the Ministry of Finance now moves to the next stage of budget preparation ahead of the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement to Parliament later this year.
