Gov’t Disburses GHS 10 Billion to Settle Domestic Debt Exchange Interest Obligations
The Government of Ghana has successfully paid GHS 10 billion in interest obligations under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP), marking the sixth coupon settlement since the programme’s inception.
Notably, this represents the second consecutive full cash payment, with no Payment-In-Kind (PIK) component, highlighting the government’s strengthened fiscal capacity and debt-servicing ability.
The payment covers cedi-denominated DDEP coupon obligations in accordance with the terms of the restructuring memorandum and the government’s broader debt management and fiscal consolidation framework.
Officials say the timely settlement is expected to send a positive signal to both domestic and international investors, reinforcing market confidence and supporting Ghana’s credit outlook. The move also aims to enhance stability within the financial sector, particularly among banks and pension funds.
Government reiterated its commitment to meeting future DDEP obligations, underpinned by robust fiscal buffers, improving macroeconomic fundamentals, declining inflation, lower interest rates, and a stable cedi.
