GFA and French Embassy Empower Young Girls in Sports Development Initiative

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the French Football Federation (FFF) through the French Embassy in Accra have been in partnership over the years to support the growth of women’s football in the country.

Through this initiative, the French Embassy, Alliance Française d’Accra, Dunk GrassRoots Community Centre, and Besasaka organised a Women in Sport event at the DUNK Grassroots – Jamestown Community Centre to encourage young girls with interests in sports.

Former Black Queens Head Coach, Mercy Tagoe Quarcoo, attended on behalf of the GFA to speak to selected schools, encouraging them to take their passion seriously.

“It is an honour to come and talk to young girls today. It’s great to see these girls passionate about different sports, not just football. I encourage you all to do your best, believe in yourselves, persevere, and put in the hard work. Don’t forget your books, as education is very important. I know you’ll be successful.

“It was challenging in our time to venture into a male-dominated field, but it’s better now. You have role models to look up to, and with the GFA’s support, there’s been significant improvement in the women’s game, making them more visible. You can choose your role models.

“It won’t be easy, but I know that if you’re humble and willing to learn, you’ll make it,” she concluded.
