GFA Dissolves Black Stars Management Committee After Failure to Qualify For AFCON 2025
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially dissolved the Black Stars Management Committee in response to the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
This decision was made during an Executive Council meeting on November 20, 2024, as part of an effort to address the consequences of Ghana’s disappointing campaign.
In a statement, the GFA expressed gratitude to the committee members for their contributions but emphasized the necessity of restructuring to restore the fortunes of the Black Stars. Plans are in place for a meeting with head coach Otto Addo on November 27 to review his technical report and assess his staff’s performance since his reappointment in March 2024.
Addo’s tenure has been challenging, highlighted by the team’s failure to secure a win during the AFCON qualifiers, marking Ghana’s first absence from the tournament since 2004.
While some defend Addo, calling for patience, criticism is mounting, with many questioning his role as head coach. The GFA has publicly apologized for the team’s failure and is committed to rebuilding in anticipation of the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where Ghana currently sits joint-top of Group I.
Further updates on the restructuring and Addo’s future are expected after the November 27 meeting.
