GFA Elections timetable put on hold due to court injunction
The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) timetable for the 2023 Elections has been unexpectedly suspended, following a court injunction filed at the High Court by King Faisal.
King Faisal, represented by legal counsel James Kwame Quayson, contends that, as per the GFA’s statutes, a legitimate Congress cannot convene for the election of the GFA President until the new members or representatives of the Executive Committee have been properly elected.
The GFA responded to the situation, acknowledging that the announcement of decisions by the Elections Committee after the vetting of applicants has been halted. The GFA conveyed this message to all its members and stakeholders, with a particular emphasis on applicants who have submitted their Nomination Forms for various positions.
“The GFA therefore wishes to inform all its members and stakeholders (especially Applicants who have filed their Nomination Forms for various positions) of the suspension of the 2023 GFA Elections process until the hearing of the motion on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.”
“The Association wishes to urge all members, clubs and applicants to remain calm. The Association will endeavour to seek appropriate legal redress for the prompt return to the 2023 Election Timetable and ensure that the calendar is not further disrupted.”
The GFA Elections were originally scheduled to be held in Tamale. The election process is intended to designate new leaders to lead the association, with both the incumbent, Kurt Okraku, and former Vice President, George Afriyie, vying for the Presidential position.
