GFA Leadership Makes Courtesy Call on Parliament to Boost Football Development
The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, led a delegation to the Parliament on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.
The visit included members of the Executive Council and Regional Football Association (RFA) Chairmen, aiming to foster collaboration and support for the sport.
The delegation met with the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, along with other key parliamentary leaders, to discuss matters of mutual interest. This visit follows similar engagements with the Minister of Sports and Recreation, the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), and the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG).
During the meeting, President Simeon-Okraku emphasized the crucial role of partnership between the GFA and Parliament in ensuring that football continues to thrive as a unifying force for the nation. He expressed gratitude to the Speaker and the Majority and Minority Leaders for their commitment to supporting football development in Ghana.
The President presented a detailed report on the current state of football, highlighting the challenges faced by the sport and proposing solutions to address these issues. This comprehensive document was shared with the Speaker, Majority and Minority Leaders, and the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, aiming to garner collective support for the implementation of these solutions.
This visit marks a pivotal step in aligning the goals of the GFA with the leadership of Parliament, reinforcing the notion that football can serve as a source of national pride and unity for all Ghanaians. With the backing of Parliament, the GFA aims to enhance the football experience for players and fans alike, ensuring the sport’s continued growth and success in the country.
Joining President Simeon-Okraku were Vice-President Mark Addo and the ten RFA chairmen, all eager to collaborate with Parliament to shape a brighter future for Ghanaian football.
