GFA President Commends Ghanaian Media, Calls For Continued Collaboration to Advance Football Development

President of the Football Association, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has lauded the Ghanaian media for their unwavering support and constructive engagement, emphasizing the need for continued collaboration in advancing the growth of football across the country.

Speaking at a lively press soiree held on Tuesday night at the Gold Coast Restaurant in Accra, President Simeon-Okraku expressed heartfelt appreciation to members of the media fraternity for their commitment, balanced coverage and passion for Ghanaian football.

The event brought together leading journalists, editors and broadcasters, alongside GFA Vice President Mark Addo and members of the Executive Council, fostering an atmosphere of camaraderie and open dialogue.

“I want to thank each and every one of you for the massive show of support,” President Simeon-Okraku said. “I also want to thank those who criticize us, and plead that it’s done constructively, because your input helps us build a stronger football ecosystem. We’ve gone through many phases, but I am confident that the future of Ghana football is extremely bright.”

Reflecting on the past year, the GFA President acknowledged the challenges faced in 2024, particularly the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, but highlighted the team’s resurgence in qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after dominating their group.

He also celebrated the Black Queens’ impressive third-place finish at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, and the Black Starlets’ qualification for the 2026 Africa U-17 Championship, marking the youth team’s return to continental competition.

President Simeon-Okraku further noted the growth of the Ghana Premier League, citing improvements in finances, television coverage and fan appeal, as well as the success of youth development initiatives under the “Power to the Youth” policy, which continues to produce promising talent nationwide.

He reiterated the GFA’s commitment to maintaining strong partnerships with the media, recognising their role as a key stakeholder in promoting transparency, accountability and progress within Ghanaian football.

“The Football Association will continue to engage the media as an important partner in the advancement of the game.” he affirmed.

The press soiree concluded with an interactive session, where members of the media shared perspectives on the growth of Ghanaian football, reinforcing a shared vision for a vibrant and united football community.
