GFA Set To Launch “Girls for Goals” Program to Empower Young Female Athletes
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to make a significant impact on youth sports and gender equality with the launch of its “Girls for Goals” program. This initiative will be introduced on Tuesday, November 26, at the Keta Business School in the Volta Region, marking a pivotal moment for the empowerment of young girls through sports.
The “Girls for Goals” program is a comprehensive 9-month initiative designed to inspire and support girls aged 10-18, providing them with training, mentorship, and resources to excel not only in football but in various sports and educational pursuits. The program aims to promote healthy lifestyles and foster a culture of gender equality, empowering girls to realize their full potential.
Leading the launch will be Ama Brobey-Williams, the GFA’s Deputy General Secretary (Admin), who emphasizes the program’s alignment with the GFA’s vision of promoting women’s football and grassroots participation. “The Girls for Goals program is a critical initiative that aligns with our commitment to empowering girls through sports,” said Brobey-Williams. “Every girl has the potential to achieve greatness, and we are dedicated to providing them with the support and resources they need to succeed.”
The initiative is not just limited to football; it encompasses a wide range of sports activities, offering a holistic approach to youth development. By focusing on both girls and boys, the program seeks to create a balanced environment where all young athletes can thrive and learn from one another.
Significant backing for “Girls for Goals” has come from FIFA, La Guilde, GIZ, and various stakeholders within the GFA, highlighting the initiative’s potential for broad impact. The program aims to nurture a generation of change-makers equipped to contribute positively to their communities, embodying the GFA’s commitment to sustainable development.
The launch event is expected to draw considerable attention, with dignitaries including the District Chief Executive of Keta, the Director of Education for the Keta Municipal Assembly, and representatives from the Ghana Education Service in attendance, alongside local chiefs and community leaders.
