CODEO Expands Post-Election Monitoring Amid Parliamentary Disputes
The Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) has initiated an extended post-election monitoring exercise across Ghana, reflecting concerns over unresolved parliamentary results following the recent elections.
Running from December 22, 2024, to January 23, 2025, the initiative will deploy 20 trained citizen observers nationwide to scrutinize the post-election environment.
Their focus will include the actions of critical institutions such as the Electoral Commission (EC), political parties, the judiciary, and security agencies, alongside civil society organizations (CSOs).
Particular attention will be paid to electoral disputes, the behavior of political actors, and adherence to constitutional protocols in the lead-up to the President-elect’s inauguration on January 7, 2025.
The exercise underscores CODEO’s mandate to ensure stability and transparency in the electoral process, especially during a period of heightened political sensitivity.
The Coalition in a statement has acknowledged ongoing challenges regarding the declaration of results for specific parliamentary seats, urging stakeholders to act within the bounds of the law.
“The rule of law must prevail,” CODEO emphasized in its statement, calling for disputes to be resolved through legitimate channels to preserve national unity.
CODEO in the statement reaffirmed its role in fostering credible electoral processes, asserting that election observation is not confined to polling day but extends to pre- and post-election phases.
By monitoring this critical period, the Coalition seeks to uphold democratic accountability and mitigate risks to Ghana’s political stability.
Regular updates on findings according to CODEO will be shared with the public, underscoring CODEO’s commitment to transparent and credible electoral outcomes.
