Ghana Armed Forces Helicopter Crashes in Adansi Akrofuom, 8 Feared Dead
A Ghana Armed Forces helicopter has reportedly crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, with initial reports suggesting multiple casualties and injuries.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. While full details remain sketchy, eyewitness accounts and local authorities have confirmed the crash, which is said to have left the aircraft engulfed in flames.
According to Assembly Member for the area, Matthew Baah, the crash occurred while he was on his farm. He told Accra-based Adom FM: “After the crash, everything went silent. Residents who rushed to the scene found the helicopter in flames.”
Though the Ghana Armed Forces has yet to issue an official statement, preliminary observations from the crash site suggest that four individuals may have been on board. Eyewitnesses report the discovery of dismembered body parts, raising fears of fatalities.
Emergency response teams have since been deployed to the scene, while investigations into the cause of the crash are expected to commence immediately. The identities of those on board remain unknown at this stage.
Wednesday’s incident marks the second involving a military aircraft in under two years. On March 19, 2024, a Ghana Armed Forces helicopter carrying 21 individuals — including staff of the Ghana National Gas Company — was forced to make an emergency landing at Bonsukrom, near Agona Nkwanta in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region.
In that instance, the aircraft was conducting routine offshore powerline inspection duties for the Atuabo Gas Plant when it reportedly hovered over the area for a prolonged period in search of a landing zone before crashing into trees. No fatalities were recorded, but the aircraft was severely damaged.
