Ghana Club 100 Awards: Newmont Ghana clinches top spot; adjudged best company in Ghana

Newmont Ghana Gold Ltd (Ahafo South Mine) has been adjudged the best company in Ghana.

The gold mining company emerged as the number one company in the country after it beat ninety-nine (99) other companies enlisted in the 20th edition of the Ghana Club 100 awards scheme.

Newmont Ghana placed second in last year’s 19th edition of the Ghana Club 100 awards scheme after financial technology (FinTech) company, Zeepay, which emerged as the number one company in the country.

Zeepay, in the 20th edition, lost its number 1 spot falling to the 13th position.

Taking the second and third positions as the second and third best companies in the country were Scancom Plc Ghana (MTN Ghana) and Amanex Company Limited respectively.

The 20th edition of the Ghana Club 100 Awards held under the theme “Accelerating Economic Growth: Amplifying Ghana’s Global Market Footprint through AFCFTA”, aimed at fostering an effective mechanism for assessing Ghanaian companies, while instilling the character and confidence needed by businesses to compete in the global marketplace.

Speaking during the event, CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Yofi Grant, noted that, “The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) pact presents a golden opportunity for Ghanaian businesses to expand their reach. For us at GIPC, our work is to complement government efforts by instituting various measures to bolster Ghana’s private sector’s competitiveness on the African Continent.”

Adding that, the 20th edition of the Ghana Club 100 awards is to, “celebrate decades of resilience, innovation and excellence showcased by Ghanaian businesses.”

Honours were given to the top 100 enterprises in strategic sectors such as; agriculture and agribusiness, financial services, ICT, infrastructure, petroleum, mining services, manufacturing, tourism, health, and education.

This year’s edition comprised three enthralling sessions. First was the Executive Networking Cocktail Session where club members and other high-level business executives networked and deepened business relations.

This was followed by the main event where businesses that were enlisted received prestigious awards.

Thereafter, the night was capped off with post-event celebrations which saw amazing performances from respected High-Life artiste, Kofi Kinaata.
