Ghana Declares Commerciality for Eban-Akoma Oil and Gas Discoveries in Cape Three Points Block 4

Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector has marked a significant milestone with the official Declaration of Commerciality for the Eban-Akoma hydrocarbon discoveries within the Cape Three Points Block 4 (CTP-B4), the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced.

The declaration, submitted on July 3, 2025, was made by a consortium of Joint Venture (JV) Partners comprising Eni Ghana Exploration & Production Ltd, Vitol Upstream Tano Ltd, Woodfields Upstream Ghana Ltd, and GNPC Exploration & Production Company Ltd (Explorco), in collaboration with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). This follows the successful completion of an appraisal programme that confirmed the commercial viability of the Eban-1X oil discovery and the Akoma-1X gas and condensate find.

Commenting on the development, Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, described the declaration as a pivotal step in the country’s quest for energy self-sufficiency and economic growth.

“It highlights the immense potential of our offshore resources to fuel economic transformation, enhance energy security, and drive Ghana’s industrialisation agenda,” he said.

The Declaration of Commerciality paves the way for the JV Partners to submit a comprehensive Plan of Development (PoD) designed to ensure optimal resource recovery, value maximisation, and increased local content in line with Ghana’s energy policies.

The Ministry, in partnership with the Petroleum Commission and GNPC, has pledged to provide continuous oversight and support for the effective implementation of the Eban-Akoma project, reinforcing government’s commitment to a transparent, resilient, and investor-friendly energy sector.
